3D print as needed
Share
Covid pushed prices up and stretched lead times. Some enclosure components went through the roof. Waiting 8 weeks and paying inflated pricing was not a strategy.
So we started 3D printing our own alarm boxes.
That move:
• Cut enclosure costs by over 50 percent
• Gave us full inventory control
• Helped keep system pricing stable
• Eliminated long supply delays
There was one weak point.
The lid screws.
If overtightened, they can break. Plastic threads do not forgive heavy hands.
That forced us to think outside the box. Not the enclosure. The mindset.
Instead of blaming materials or customers, we went back to the design. 3D CAD is not my strongest skill, but this did not require perfection. It required creativity and action.
We redesigned the lid screw. Beefier. Stronger. Better interface.
In the meantime, we made the print file available on our website. If someone damages a screw, they can reprint it themselves.
No secrets. No runaround.
Supply chains get messy. You adapt. You redesign. You improve.
And you keep moving forward.
