Down memory lane

Throwback to 2014.

We installed security systems in these two 53-foot VP Racing Fuels trailers. On paper, it sounded like a straightforward job. Both trailers only had a single rear roll-up door, so there were a few challenges, but nothing we couldn’t handle.

There was just one small detail…

Each trailer was carrying about 20 drums of nitromethane.

The drums were secured at the front of the trailer while we worked at the rear, so we weren’t too concerned. Then the Texas heat started doing its thing.

One by one… the drums began making loud popping and groaning noises as they expanded and contracted.

I’ll admit it.

We both jumped and got out of those trailers faster than our dignity could keep up.

We walked into the office and asked if that was normal. After they finished laughing at us, they assured us it happened all the time and there was nothing to worry about.

So we climbed back in, finished the installation, and tried to act like we hadn’t just sprinted out of there a few minutes earlier.

Looking back, it’s one of those jobs that still makes me laugh. Every installation has its own story, and this one is definitely on the list.
