How many theft charges

Having attended security conferences over the years and working with various government agencies, I’ve picked up a few things that are outside my normal wheelhouse.

One interesting fact I learned is that if the combination shown here was stolen, it wouldn’t be treated as a single theft.

In many cases, you would be looking at at least three separate thefts:

• The truck
• The trailer carrying the load
• The container itself

And that doesn’t even begin to address whatever might be inside the container.

Sometimes people look at security as protecting a single asset. In reality, one theft can involve multiple pieces of equipment and a whole lot of value.

Prevention is always cheaper than dealing with the paperwork, insurance claims, downtime, and headaches afterward. Funny how criminals can turn one bad day into four or five separate problems without putting nearly as much effort into it as the owner did acquiring everything in the first place.
