No options?
It still surprises me that you can buy a new enclosed cargo trailer with a long list of options, but almost never have the option to add a trailer security system.
Need e-track? No problem.
Specific door handles? Easy.
Smoke detectors? Available.
But protection against theft? Almost never.
Considering the value of what’s inside many of these trailers, that seems like a missed opportunity.
That’s one of the reasons I spend time visiting trailer manufacturers and dealers. Not because I expect every conversation to end with a sale, but because every conversation helps spread the word that trailer security should be considered just like any other factory or dealer-installed option.
When the PRI Show rolls around this December, we’ll once again make it a point to visit the 20 or so trailer manufacturers and dealers exhibiting there. Every discussion is another chance to move the industry a little further in the right direction.
Change rarely happens overnight. It usually starts with one conversation at a time.
