Noise only?

A surprising number of people think trailer security starts and ends with making noise.

I had a call today from a trucking company looking for a security system for their 53-foot semi trailers. We talked for about 20 minutes.

Within the first 10 minutes, I realized we weren’t talking about the same thing.

He wanted a simple noise maker.

We don’t build noise makers.

We build trailer security systems designed to slow a thief down, notify the owner, and make it much harder to leave with the trailer.

The more we talked, the more it became clear that he was looking for a $10 answer to help protect cargo worth hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions, of dollars.

There wasn’t much more I could do.

I wasn’t going to argue with him or make him feel foolish. Everyone has a different idea of what “security” means. I simply explained what our systems do and let him decide what level of protection made sense for his business.

I’ve learned something after more than 20 years in this industry.

Not every customer is my customer.

If the goal is simply to make a little noise, there are plenty of products that can do that.

If the goal is to actually protect your trailer and give yourself a chance of stopping a theft before it’s too late, that’s where we come in.

The cost of real security is almost always less than the cost of learning why you needed it. After all, thieves rarely shop by price. They shop by opportunity. Even criminals appreciate a bargain. It’s one of their more consistent business principles.
