PB&J

I was recently asked by a potential customer what our “bread-and-butter” jobs are.

After thinking about it, I don’t think bread and butter really describes us.

We’re probably more like peanut butter and jelly.

The peanut butter is pretty consistent. Our G2 is by far our best-selling security system.

The jelly is where things get interesting.

There are a whole lot of different flavors.

If I had to guess, the most common trailer we protect is probably somewhere in the 20’ to 35’ range, with a rear ramp door and a single side door.

But that’s just one flavor.

We also work with race trailers, horse trailers, semi trailers, food trucks, government projects and plenty of other applications that don’t fit neatly into a category.

About 70% of our sales happen directly through Trailer-Alarms.com, so quite often someone orders a system, we build it and ship it, and we never even know what type of trailer it ends up protecting.

Then there are the phone calls.

Those can get interesting.

After more than 20 years, very little surprises me anymore. We’ve been asked about electrifying trailer handles. We’ve even been asked if we could connect a shotgun to the alarm.

Nope. Neither one is a flavor we’re serving.

We also get asked about outdoor motion sensors and connecting cameras directly into the alarm. We’ve experimented with enough different ideas over the years to know that some things sound much better than they actually work around a trailer.

So I guess Trailer-Alarms.com isn’t really a bread-and-butter business.

We’re more peanut butter and jelly.

The G2 may be the peanut butter.

But after more than 20 years, I still don’t know what flavor of jelly someone is going to bring us next.
