Following my recent post about moving toward a single enclosure across our alarm product line, someone asked if we’d still be willing to build one using the smaller enclosure.

The answer is yes.

The only real difference is that it would add about a day to the build while we print the enclosure.

That’s one of the advantages of bringing more of our manufacturing in-house. We aren’t limited to what’s sitting on a shelf or waiting on a supplier. If a customer needs something a little different, we have the files, the printers, and the ability to make it happen.

To me, that’s no different than building a custom solution, modifying a system for a unique application, or any other custom security solution we’ve done over the years.

Standardizing on one enclosure makes sense for our day-to-day manufacturing, inventory, and efficiency.

But it doesn’t mean we’ve lost the flexibility to do something different when a customer needs it.

Sometimes the biggest advantage of making your own products isn’t speed.

It’s having the ability to say, “Yes, we can do that.”
