Wiring harness

I started a small production batch of G2 wiring harnesses this week.

Getting the process going took some time. The first one was painfully slow. Each one since has gotten faster, and I’ve already cut the production time considerably.

Is making wiring harnesses fun?

Not just no, but hell no.

The company I was purchasing these from has been building harnesses for years. They know what the hell they’re doing. I’m learning as I go and figuring out where I can make the process more efficient.

But there’s a reason for bringing this part of production in-house.

As the cost of nearly everything else continues to increase, this gives me one area where I can actually reduce the internal cost of building our G2 systems.

That matters.

I could simply accept higher costs and keep passing them along. Instead, I’d rather find places where we can control them ourselves.

If spending some time at the workbench building wiring harnesses helps keep our trailer security systems reasonably priced, I’ll keep doing it.

Because even with the cost of a good security system, it’s still a whole lot cheaper than replacing a stolen trailer and everything inside it.
